There is a charming out door area for dining when the weather is nice, which it often is in Parksville. Inside the decor was intimate and welcoming -- clean and bright with personal touches at the tables. The server was friendly without being imposing and the service was punctual. Prices are reasonable, the food was good, more "okay' than amazing, but a good value with a home cooked feel. The menu is extensive and caters to all tastes and age groups. They have a special seniors menu selection with smaller portions and lower costs -- a very thoughtful touch. All in all, this is a nice place to take the family. |

I am sad to say that our celebration took a turn for the worse, when the Hungarian Goulash that is promised with freshly backed bread actually arrived with the bread still frozen in the middle. The main course was a further disappointment. We had ordered two Vienna schnitzel with spaetzle and sauce hollandaise. The meat was of very poor quality, almost impossible to cut and even worse to chew. The breading which is meant to be crispy was soaked in oil and the spaetzle were cold. After we had informed our waitress that the meals were unsatisfactory, she brought the cook to our table. His dress was less than desirable, the shirt unbuttoned to the navel, not what you would expect someone to look like when they talk to customers. After much discussion the waitress removed the plates from our table and brought our bill. To our surprise they were charging us for the meals minus the meat. We informed her that we were not willing to pay for meals that we did not eat. So instead she began swearing at us and told us she was calling the police. She returned to the table a few minutes later and decided it would be completely suitable to pour half the saucer of sauce hollandaise left on the table over me. This experience was a first in my life, a very expensive jacket ruined and my faith in German restaurants in Canada deeply wounded. |
