1    Thu Oct 12 14:49:54 2006 Anonymous 4.20 My wife and I decided to meet for lunch at Mel's Diner on a Thursday afternoon. Mel's diner has a 50's styles feel. The prices are average, and the breakfast (which is served all day) is a good value). On this day, the diner was was full (but no lineup). There is a sign advertising jobs for wait staff, kitchen help and dish washer. We waited about 15 minutes for a waitress to take our order. After about 10 additional minutes, another waitress reminded our waitress to bring us our drinks while we wait for our meal. We watched as plenty of breakfasts were served. We waited and waited. After about 45 minutes, our waitress said our food should be right out (this is our lunch HOUR and an hour was almost used up). We saw our meals go under the heat lamp. After a few more minutes, we ask the other waitress if we could just pick it up ourselves and bring it back to the table. I advised to the waitress we had been waiting just shy of an hour. She said, "Well, you can see the place is busy". After waiting all this time, we were pretty grumpy and decided to leave. The food looked good and the clientelle (mostly students) seemed happy enough ... but the customer service was lousy, and I expected an apology instead of a lashing. After all, a hot beef sandwich with two sides was $12 tax and $2.50 for a drink (refillable). If you are a not on a time constraint, this place might be viable. If you are in a hurry at lunch (during a weekday), two waitresses in this place is not enough to carry the load.
