1    Tue Aug 3 10:43:43 2004 Foodie 2.40 We were famished after a long day of hiking in the Niagara area, ended up in Virgil, and chose the best-looking restaurant we could find. Alfredo's, by its very name, seemed like a place that specialized in Italian food. The lights were cheery, and the place looked cozy. Though we didn't expect fine dining, we certainly weren't prepared for what we got. Might I add that it's VERY rare that we treat ourselves to a dinner out? This was to be my treat. I was ready to splurge. We both went for the gusto and excitedly ordered veal parmesan. Granted, this was 9:00 at night, but our food tasted and felt as though it had sat around all day and then been reheated in the microwave. I have never in my life had spaghetti that I could not swallow, but I left every bit of it on my plate and just choked down the veal. My boyfriend didn't touch his spaghetti after the initial taste, either. The noodles were dry, bloated, mushy and rubbery. I have left spaghetti in my fridge for three days and yielded much better results. I don't even know how the staff at Alfredo's achieved such a texture. The veal, too, had clearly been reheated, and the cheese on the top was of the processed variety. This was a colossal waste of money, and an embarrassment to me as the "dinner provider" for the evening. Yes, we should have complained. We might have mentioned something to our server if she had not dashed away from our table after delivering our meals, never to return again except to scoop away our full plates and dash away again to chat with a friend.
