Lots of people in the patio, but inside it's a stye. The food looks and tastes good and is served with some flair, but there were some aspects that I didn't care for. To begin with, we were packed in there like sardines. There's hardly any room for you to move between the tables, and the hostess seems intent on seating everybody as close together as possible. It wouldn't have been too bad if we could have sat further away from the crowd (there were empty tables) but those requests were ignored. Apparently either the request wasn't passed on, or nobody cared to do anything about it. I'm not exactly fat, I'm actually an embarassingly skinny guy, but it was still a tight fit. I pitty anyone with a larger waist size trying to maneuver in there. It's also quite dark with an odour of stale beer and tobacco (oddly enough since no smoking is allowed) which detracts from the taste of the food. I can see why the patio was in such great demand. Parking is practically non-existant -- mostly shared street parking. Depending on the time of day, this may be good or bad. In a nutshell, Ridgeways tries to mimic the snooty upscale bistros that you find in Toronto's Queen Street. Only, they don't quite measure up. The prices are a bit lower (though not by much) but while the food is ok, there's nothing to make it stand out and while the patio is a nice touch, the interior suffers for it. If they gave their customers a bit more space and did a bit more to clean up the dining area, I'd give it a better score. It's not so much that I hated it or hated the food, but that there wasn't enough about the place to LIKE. I just didn't feel comfortable or welcome there. Finally, one last suggestion to potential patrons. We went there a couple of times during the day and once in the evening. In the evening, the music is played at volumes that would make Cineplex seem mild. If you have sensitive ears, go in the daytime, or bring earplugs.
